At the Aspendale Stingrays, we are committed to nurturing local talent and providing a clear, structured pathway for players who wish to elevate their game. Our Player Pathways are designed for motivated individuals who possess a growth mindset and a genuine desire to train with purpose.

Skills Development Program (SDP)

Term-Based Technical Focus

A refined training pathway focused on individual technical mastery, ball control, and building on-pitch confidence. The SDP is ideal for players looking to complement their regular team training with high-intensity, focused skill sessions in a challenging environment.

Football Development Squad (FDS)

Advanced 12-Month Squad

The advanced tier of our junior pathway. The FDS is a year-round, intensive training and match environment for players ready to commit to tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and high-level execution within a dedicated and stable squad structure.

Academy Program

Elite U14+ (Commencing 2027)

The pinnacle of our youth development pathway. Designed exclusively for high-performing players, the Academy is an intensive 12-month program bridging the gap to senior football with elite training and premier tournament exposure.

Stingrays Skills Development Program (SDP)

The Stingrays Skills Development Program (SDP) is a refined training pathway designed for players ready to commit to a higher standard of technical excellence. Moving beyond general skills, the SDP focuses on creating a high-performance environment for motivated athletes who possess a "development mindset" and a desire to train with purpose.

The Program Focus

Our sessions are structured to challenge players both physically and mentally, ensuring they are prepared for the demands of competitive football. The SDP focuses on three core pillars:

Technical Mastery

High-repetition, purposeful drills to sharpen ball control, passing accuracy, and execution under pressure.

On-Pitch Confidence

High-intensity scenarios designed to build composure and decision-making skills in game-like environments.

Individual Growth

Tailored coaching that complements team training by focusing specifically on the individual player's technical development.

The Stingrays Standard

To maintain a high-quality learning environment, the SDP operates with clear expectations regarding focus, effort, and behaviour:

  • Commitment: We group players with similar levels of intent to ensure sessions remain progressive and effective.
  • Accountability: Players are responsible for their attitude on the pitch. To ensure a distraction-free zone, we utilise a Yellow and Red Card system to manage behaviours not aligned with our standards.
  • Expert Coaching: By strictly limiting participant numbers, we maintain optimal coach-to-player ratios for personalised feedback.

Is this program right for my player?

The SDP is best suited for players who are eager to challenge themselves and are ready to take full ownership of their development. We encourage families to discuss these expectations with their players to ensure they are ready to meet the standards of this high-intensity environment.

Note: Participation in the SDP requires a consistent commitment to the full term schedule.

Football Development Squads (FDS)

The Football Development Squad (FDS) is the premier tier of the Aspendale Stingrays pathway. It is a year-round, intensive training and match environment created for players who are ready to elevate their game and fully commit to their football journey.

An Advanced Training Environment

The FDS is built for players who have moved beyond individual skills and are ready to thrive in a focused, high-standard team structure.

12-Month Commitment

Unlike term-based sessions, the FDS runs for a full year. This provides stability, allowing players to develop deep team cohesion and benefit from long-term coaching consistency.

Advanced Team Development

As a member of a dedicated squad, players focus on sophisticated tactical awareness, physical readiness, and high-level execution within a team framework.

The Pursuit of Excellence

This programme is the primary choice for players striving to reach their potential, offering a challenging yet supportive atmosphere that matches the ambition of our most dedicated young athletes.

Trial & Selection Process

Entry into the Football Development Squad is via an annual trial process. Trials take place each September and squads strat training in Term 4.

Available Squad Age Groups:

  • Under 10 (Born 2016)
  • Under 11 (Born 2015)
  • Under 12 (Born 2014)
  • Under 13 (Born 2013)

Future Expansion:
We are proud to announce that from 2027, the FDS will expand to include an Under 12 squad, ensuring our most committed players have a clear and continuous pathway through their junior years.

Academy Program - Starts 2027

The Aspendale Stingrays Academy Program is the pinnacle of our youth development pathway. Designed exclusively for high-performing players in the Under 14 and older age groups, the Academy bridges the critical gap between junior football and senior competition.

This is a demanding, high-performance environment built for young athletes who possess an unwavering dedication to the sport and the ambition to test themselves at the highest levels.

The Elite Standard

Operating above the Football Development Squad (FDS), the Academy requires a significant step up in dedication, focus, and physical preparation.

12-Month Elite Commitment

The Academy operates on a rigorous, full-year cycle. This continuous 12-month structure ensures maximum physical, tactical, and technical development, allowing players to build deep squad cohesion and peak for major competitive periods.

Intensive Training Schedule

Academy squads train three times per week. Sessions are highly structured and emulate a senior football environment, incorporating advanced tactical phasing, strength and conditioning, and match preparation.

Premier Tournament Exposure

A core philosophy of the Academy Program is testing our development against the best available opposition.

Throughout the 12-month cycle, Academy squads will enter multiple high-profile external tournaments. The focal point of our competitive calendar is participation in major national youth events, such as the prestigious Kanga Cup, providing our players with invaluable travel and elite match experience.

Positions in the Academy Program are highly sought after and offered strictly through an invitation and trial process. We seek players who not only demonstrate advanced technical ability but also possess the mental resilience, coachability, and absolute commitment required to train and compete three days a week, year-round.
